Poem Commentary

Ripped from the pages of my journal:
I wrote this poem back in my youngon days when I join'd a gang and soon realized that it was a waste of time and talent....Although our gang wasn't as crucial as today's gang.......we didn't take lives, we took property
(but I plea the 5th to what I just said) still, being in a gang is a poor excuse of any kind.....Today I will continue to write about the wrong and for those of you who have issues with this poem....get at me...If you're still able...Nuff said

Portrait of a Gang Banga

Gang banga where are ya now,
In a cage or in the ground?
Young punks tot'n guns
Causin havoc among the innocent ones
Portrait of a gang banga: Young, wild and runnin' loose
Ya not cool, so what's the use? Perpetratin' like ya got the juice
Twelve years old; not old enough to drive
Packin' a piece and snuffin' out lives
The way ya actin', ya partly the blame
Ya parents didn't care enuff and thats a daym shame
Lets get real adolescent what'cha doin', its no big thang
Ya just another punk in a gang
I'm here to tell ya, you aint 'bout shit
But another hard head target waitin' to get hit
Gang bang'n; ya need yo ass whipped
No one forced you to go on this trip
On the corna just hang'n
Nothin' betta to do but go gang bang'n
Ya say ya can't see your future ahead?
How can ya when ya caused it to be dead
Young punk for once in yo life, THINK
Before ya get wasted inside of a blink
Runnin' games and perpatratin' like ya hard
Stealin', Dealin', Sellin', Killin', now ya think ya large
Lost of faith, hope and pride
Now you're a victim of a homicide
Put away the steel, throw away the pipe
Get off the dope and stop the hype
Do a reality check on the situation
A message to the youth of this nation:
" Don't sell out your generation "
My brotha, My sista do the right thing
Stop the madness and let yo freedom ring

"Young punk for once in yo life, THINK" is my favorite line of this poem. When I read it I picture an older brother...grabbing his sibling by their shirt...and throwing them against a wall. At the same time I picture the kid, brushing themselves off and continueing on in their devilish ways. Thinking of their older brother as either soft...or just a dickhead who doesn' t know what he's talking about. It is a sorry state of affairs. Good write.

are gangs the same as the army? or they just nonsense? nobody is hard or tough but what else is there to do in life for people like this, striving your best gets you nowhere, so when you're talking to a gang banga...it's like they don't even care.

Now I know you could be rapper because this is slammin and so true to some effect. I didn't know you was in a gang. I'm glad you got out of it. Your poems seems tto flow well. I like how it rings. Good job buddy. Keep them coming and hopefully I can be inspired to write some. I loved that "lyin Azz B" poem....its inspiring me to write one on my ex-wife. And I have got a lot to say on that subject. So I'm going to need your help.

It's like what Craig's dad said -Kids nowadays so sissified. Quick to pick up a gun, scared to take an ass whoopin.- It's all about the look now anyway. Now that gangsta's is all commercialized now you got wannabe's on every corner, lookin like they hoped right out of a music video hahahha. Its like the poem stated, they forget how to THINK. This poem brings up all kinds of issues in my head. Good message though.

wow that was best poem i read on here it really touch me i see thoses stupid dumb ass young boys on the corner everyday thinkin that they the shit and that they hard when they aint really about nothing some many young males out there need to read this poem cuz you hiit it right on the money with this one. it especially got to me when you said "Twelve years old; not old enough to drive" a 12 and a couple of his friends try to rob my 16 year old brother with a knife and in the end the 12 year old ended up getting stab. but he didnt die but he could have. that situation started a big battle between my family and the gang the 12 years old was in. which have have led to other people being stab, shootouts and a much of other bs. but it all started cuz a lil 12 year old wanted to play with the big stupid boys and got caught up in a gang. but anyway excellent poem to bad i can only give u a 10 :)

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
