Poem Commentary

For anyone who has a strong passion for their city (mine being Cleveland) they can relate to this poem.  There has been a dark negative cloud over my city for a very long time and I feel like this poem is that strong wind needed to push that cloud clear across Lake Erie. I feel like its monumental for my city and I want to take this poem to the next level. Thanks for checking it out. Shout out to all the Cleveland Poets!

Inspiration brought on by a dying city. Financially and spiritually speaking. Going back through the history books of my city I see that at one point we were a thriving cluster of communities filled with culture, comradery and hard work. Beauty and brawn to boot. But lately I've seen division, hateration and elevated rates of evacuation taking away the last remaining heartbeats of my beautiful city once filled with so much life. Like a dying old man each. breath. one. step. closer to his last.
But me I feel like I'm the Cleveland Clinic, ready willing, well-known and trusted by reputation to revive this dying man. Old age is no excuse for my city founded in 1796 to kick the bucket. With old age comes wisdom, experience education and strength to bring up a new generation. As a young black woman born and raised by a young black woman in Cleveland in me was instilled work ethic. A woman in a skirt and a hard hat. A lady in timberland boots clutching a Coach bag.
My city was once a city of champions being named All-American city 5 times!
Indians, Browns, Cavs. Pennants, World Series, NFL Championships. Loyal Fans and excitement! Cleveland! Rock n Roll! The Plain Dealer, the Aliened American, a black newspaper, Carl B. Stokes, first black mayor of a major U.S. city, George Peake, the first African American settler in Lakewood. Oh yes black history is strong in Cleveland as well as Puerto Rican, Hungarian, Ukrainian, Italian, Greek dig deep seek, and ye shall find.
It takes more than a phenom wearing 23 to bring back my city. We need to think positively, and an ounce of positivity has resurrected the Cleveland in me.

I feel your pain Romaona, I watched the same thing happen to neighborhood's in Brooklyn. It was disgusting how the politicians allowed it but NY did make a come back. Unfortunately it swung the opposite way and now is to expensive a place to live, the main reason we left. I like your ambition. You wrote an inspiring prose. I sense a true leader deep down inside. Good luck, maybe it's time for people like you to run for office and throught the career bumbs out. By the way nice photo's.

Cleveland isn't all bad since it has a citizen such as yourself. One person can make a huge difference and it sounds like you are a positive addition.

A shout out to my Buckeye sister. Thanks for adding me to your friends list. I agree with your thoughts on Cleveland. I love the city and have alot of great memories of Cleveland and the old Municipal Stadium, the Dawg Pound, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and the downtown. Beautiful city, and you are be-a-u-t-ful as well.

Its hard to watch Cleveland die. With so are the surrounding communities like Akron. The whole state is dying and we will all be left to suffer our leaders mistakes
