Punching Bag

You ever get what you wanted the most?

Or A very bitter sense or a relentless host?

Maybe even a friend that only sees you?

How about a mirror that could fit your shoe?

There was one thing I sure wanted

And sure enough got it, yes I did

Did not matter size or shape, woman or man

Just for someone to play with me catch me if you can

Now the rules are simple I lead you follow

We have to be on the same track take the message and swallow

There was a story of a man with tears of gold

Who bled for all kinds not just young or old

A man who dreamed while wide awake

And forgot his last chip was at stake

This man’s frown meant no harm

But certainly brought about a ghostly charm

This man beat his own tainted heel

His friends suffered a simple slice and spirit feel

He pierces himself with the longer end

So there are mere scrapes to mend

This man has no off season in his sleep

Just makes himself stronger from a broken leap

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
