    really

    if you knew me, really
    I wonder what you'd think
and I wonder if my words would be
    half as entrancing

    people who really know me
    don't really know me well
I keep them at a distance
    maybe you could tell

    everyone who knows me
    comes to me in need
    usually some wise advice
    while inside, alone, I bleed

    I don't have a friend here
who knows me half so well
as all of you I've never met
    but welcomed to my hell

    if you knew me really
    I wonder what you'd say
would you really hold me gently
    or would you go away

so tenuous the ties that bind
    these poems that so define
but if you really knew me
    would you write another line?

Why do we crucify ourselves, everyday crucify ourselves. Tori Amos wrote those words to her song 'Crucify' in her inaugural album. So my question to you is "Why do you choose to crucify yourself?" I love the Tori Amos piece by the way. She says everything in such a beautifully real way, just like you do. If our writing can tell others who we really are, I am one who would never run away. Beautifully done.

In our poems, we reveal what we want others to see us as, just like in real life. But for the poets who actually bleed their heart and soul for all the world to see.... its hard to hide who we really are.

This piece poses such an interesting question. There are many side to us all, and if we were to reveal ourselves, how would those we are closest to react? 10 from me

if revelations can't be made to those closest to us, what it is that makes them so close? mere proximity? I want more.

You've managed, in six short & concise stanzas, to perfectly convey what most of us here at OP have probably thought and felt at some point, Tender. We make friendships easily on this site because we spill our innermost emotions onto the screen and share them with the people who've we connected with here. There are no other poetry sites or social networks like this, and it enables us to truly feel like we're making life-long connections. In a few cases, I believe I have. Thanks so much for sharing this... it's absolutely gorgeous :)

Poetry is what is lost in translation.
