    Poem Commentary

What if the struggle had been for your equality?

    Remember (Martin Luther King)

I open homepage, checked out the headlines
there was everything most want to see
I stopped and wondered at the times
everything they want but nothing they need.

Product ads for wrinkles , conditioners for dead hair
senate approvals, new discoveries, sports reviews
what is all this on the screen? At emptiness I stared
I thought at one time that news was something new.

Today is special , a holiday for MLK
Initials for a man who fought for equality
No one spells his name out , seems so grey
Did we forget to struggle for worthy deeds?

I am glad you wrote a poem on MLK. Because he has a day remembering him, you are right it should bring about questions about our equality in the past and now. He did good deed and knowing that should not be vague in our minds. t.y.

Most people take it for granted, that is, until their basic human rights are denied them. Then one becomes a special interests group, of which the majority immediately form a mob mentality and try and deny them everything. We are truly the last frontier...

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.

John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) Thirty-fifth President of the USA
