Restless

Restless

Restless

The night falls
 my eyes grow heavy
I lay myself down upon
 my empty bed

Restless heart be still

 Remnants of  tantalizing words
  dance in my head

So far away are you
 and yet so close by

The night brings no comfort
 for dreams are scattered
They  run across  my mind

My hand passes
 along my skin
Up and over to my heart
 where it rests

Feeling the pulse
 deep breaths at will
I leave this sleepless night behind

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
