Poem Commentary

Pent up emotion unleashed by my pen....

Restricted

My memories are
Restricted
The affection I want to show you is
Restricted
The words I want to say are
Restricted
The tears I want to cry are
Restricted
The truths I want to tell are
Restricted
The things you share with me are
Restricted
The time you spend with me is
Restricted
The money I can spend is
Restricted
The places I want to go are
Restricted
The way that I look is
Restricted
The ability to see my family is
Restricted
The freedom of my being is
Restricted
All of these restrictions
Are causing a constriction
In my chest
I can't breathe
Just want to seethe
Just want to leave
Just want to cry
Just want to lie
In a sleep that is free
Where my fears cease to be
Where I approve of myself
Where I do belong
Where I can love
Where I can breathe
Where I can see my own beauty
Where I am not restricted
By time
By physicality
By insecurity
By identity
By mentality
By insanity
By vanity
By fear
By judgment
By thoughts
By condemnation
By rage
By hate
By ailment
By talent
By illness
By sickness
By sadness
By uncertainty
By doubt
By not letting out
All these things
That chip away at me
And fester within
When I thought that
I had released most of them
Myself is restricted
By my mind and these stories
Realizing how restricted I feel
In so many areas of my life
Not too conducive to freedom
Which is all that I crave...

I wonder where the line is drawn? That line between restrictions. Between whether it is the conscious or fear? Selfishness or selflessness? One can see the restriction here by how the poem itself pours out as if a dam let loose caged waters. Intriguingly honest. Lies must truly be evil, for it always seems that the truth is not made to be held back. Loved the read.

I'll say one thing...you must have used every noun, verb and adjective in the English language. The poem, and you, are terrific... gogant

Trocka7: Such a worthwhile poet are you!!! Kallen

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.

John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) Thirty-fifth President of the USA
