Poem Commentary

OH laws! this is from way back. one of the very first of my poems that was actually a reoccuring dream. it is long and detailed. was just what i was into at the time.

Rivals

I arose one morning from my bed,
and faced a creature, who had a skull for a head.
I jumped up and made a dash for my hall,
then the floor vanished and I started to fall.

I landed none to lightly, on foggy, desolit land,
and saw a deserted schoolhouse, as I started to stand.
The desks were dusty, and the books were rotten,
Spiders hung from webs, thick as cotton.

Realizing I was not alone, “What is this?” I said with a sigh,
his voice slow and rasp, “ This is where childrens' dreams now lie."
“ But what's it to me, this is not my home.”
“ Oh, but it is. This is where your children shall roam.”

We then made our way to a dying orchard, the leaves dry and wilt,
He said, “ Imagine each tree, as a town of your choice, complete and built.”
“ But, I don't understand,” I wanted to cry,
“ With predgudist, hate, and disbelief, your communities have started to die.”

" Who are you?" I asked as the last tree crumbled to dust,
" Would you believe me, if I told you, I was born in trust?
A piece of all feeling, you, them, him, her, all,"
combining hate, love, death, life, rise to fall."

Your kind gave me my life, thought, health, and sick,
then you dare call me the critic."
" Then what would call this trip?" my anger rising,
" I call it a reach for help, an attempt to enlighten."

" So much suffering, pain, guilt, to small bothers,
all to follow in the foot steps of your fore-fathers."
As he walked off, a new thought started to dawn,
but when I turned to ask, he was gone.

A city, no smaller than New York, destroyed and falling,
I wanted to run, but something within was calling.
Making my way though waste and debris,
expecting the worse, empty buildings, was all to see.

Deep in thought, just find this, and its over,
I just want to be home, pillow over my head, under the cover.
But the plee in that feeling, got to find it,
it's close, from the darkness my way is lit.

From the cracked, broken earth, to the shattered vision,
a delicate, blue velvet rose, has bloomed and risen.
Knelling before it, he is back, and I understand,
just how hard it is for the fight if this one man.

"That is you, and this," he waved his arm " is now,
don' get me wrong, there are more of you, thrown about.
Sometimes you meet, and never know it, just leave laughing,
others meet, minds touch, and great things happen."

And then everything faded out, and I awoke, the sun pouring in,
colors are brighter, smells are stronger, my thoughts mingle and blend.
I dont think I'm one of those great people, in my dream,
but it gives me a smile to know what they look like, thats the greatest thing, or so it would seem.

you are a genius in the execution of your story telling. i really appreciate your style and insight. bravo, miss. 10

Poetry is either something that lives like fire inside you or else it is nothing, an empty formalized bore around which pedants can endlessly drone their notes and explanations.
