    root of pain

Hurt and pain are like the roots of an old oak tree.
They grab ahold of you and dont let go.
Spread throughout your body and take over your soul.
They don't need rain, your tears are nourishment enough.
Your blood is richer than any soil,
and now that tree will grow before you know it.
One day you look out and see that oak tree strong and proud.
And thats when you realize its taken over control.
Of your body, your thoughts, of all that you own.
You felt it growing stronger and taller each day.
Now what is there to do but pray?
Pray for strength to cut down this tree of hate.
The one that took hold and grew from your soul.
Sad thing is, once that tree is gone
the roots still run deep inside of you,
buried deep underneath, trying to break free.
This pain will never leave you, just as mine has never left me.
Just like the roots from an old oak tree.

very nicely put - pain ( and depression) are very difficult to get rid of

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
