    Scratching The Surface

    The surface of the ocean
    can be a dangerous place.
The waves pushed high by the powerful winds
    can toss you off course.
The predators see you adrift on the surface,
and move in for the kill.

    Dive down into the depths,
become one with the waters in which you exist,
and learn to swim with the current.

It is in the depths of us all,
    that serenity exists.
It is within living a worthy life,
    that meaning is found.
It is within a quest for answers,
that we learn to ask better questions.
It is within the most gentle of touches,
that we find the strongest bonds.

    On the surface
imperfections will be all you see,
so I ask you to look within yourself,
    to find me.

I thought was a great poem very descriptive in word play.

There's a lot in what you're saying. Your prose is delightful and the images resonate with the message.

Gorgeous write, my friend. I truly connected with this lovely piece. You got to the heart of it on the last line. "On the surface imperfections will be all that you see...So I ask you to look within yourself to find me." I love the way it syncs with the first line, "The surface of the ocean can be a dangerous place." There is lots of hidden symmetry and symbolism. Fabulous!

great metaphoic ode. surface appearancees, deeper realities, appeal to be discovered. we all want to know and be known. Especially by someone not too far from perfection on the outside. Harv

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.
