    Self Asking

    I have to ask myself
What it is you see when you look into my eyes?
Do you feel the love my soul holds for you
Or do you see another’s eyes looking at you through mine

What is it you see when you look into my eyes?
Could you hear the beat of my heart?
A beating so strong that it drowns me
Washing me out to the sea that is you

Do you feel the love my soul holds for you
Or do you wall up against it
Half afraid it is the real; half afraid you’ll hurt me
When if ever is it so strong you have to give in and love me?

It’s a twisted turn of love
This my mind does to me
The way it makes me oh so weak for you
Stealing my breath even before it’s breathed

I think at times I have you within my heart
I think at times we have connected
Then there are days we are so far away
This is mostly my fault, for I’m a pusher

I’m not perfect but then who is?
It’s those things that are not perfect that I love about you.
Wonder what it is about me you do love, are there any?
    I have to ask myself

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

    Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
