Self Respect

Poem Commentary

Throughout my life I’ve always heard people say if you Love someone, could you Love them enough to walk away from them. I never understood or agreed with that concept, until I met the one I wrote this poem about, this is dedicated to the first women I’ve actually cared about more than myself. This poem is about Loving someone enough to stay out of their way, and keeping your Self Respect instead of becoming infatuated (or becoming a pest). When becoming nothing in someone’s life, is better than becoming a Burdon holding them back or getting in their way.

Self Respect

I’m Done

In the name of Self Respect

I’ve given you all that I can

I’ve done for you all that I know

I really Tried

You have my Gratitude

I Care the world for You

But I can’t do this anymore

I’ve Never buried so much of my Heart

In a single moment

Like I did with you

I told myself I wouldn’t let myself Fall for You

I want to stay close

But you’re as gone as You can be

Truly smiling for you

Your finally following your Heart

Just couldn’t do it while I was around

You had to blow me off

To follow your Heart

So in the name of Love

I’m taking my Heart back

I’m turning my back on you

And silently walking away

It will take you a while to notice

By that Time

I’ll be too far

For you to catch up

I’ll leave you these words

Along the path I’ve taken

As a Clue

As an Answer

To where I’ve gone

Back to the Loneliness

The World I left behind

I know it all too well

Hate being Alone

Recklessly Far

Take Care Dear Friend

This brought tears to my eyes. A pain I know so well and so well captured in your words. Excellent job. Wonderful.

This is a beautiful poem- in the name of self respect, withdrawing in the name of love. I'm taking my Heart back /and, I'll leave you these words/Along the path I've taken/. Well done.

thank you!

If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry.
