Set Me Free

                                         Set Me Free
                                             by Girard

The coarsest rope, the kind that tears the flesh,
Has me bound. Westle and writhe..twist and turn,
                         Release cannot be found.
Crying loudy I hear no answer to my plea.

Suddenly a soft whisper laid upon the ear:
                        "Would you wear a crown?"
Screaming in desperation: "Help me, set me free,
What good a crown to me?"

The voice replied: "The rope that holds you captive
                       Is one you have woven."
I screamed louder: "If indeed I am captive of my deeds,
Take pity, bound like this forever my soul will turn to dust!"

The voice replied: "Let us strike a bargain you and I,
Sin no longer! then you will be free."
Realizing this could be, I vowed and did agree.
"I set you free, the voice called out, remember who I am."

The rope was off and I was free.
When I look to Heaven I see a cross
And from it hangs the rope.

Beautiful poem absolutely love it. Is it possible to never sin again? That would be complete control but practice makes perfect I guess you have to keep trying. Thank you 4 sharing ~KinG

thank you for reading the poem. It is one that has been published.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
