Shallow Deeds

    Shallow Deeds

    Soft moonlight comes
And the songs of the lonely
echo through the empty corners of my room.

    That time has come again
When all that has come to pass
    weighs heavily on fragile brows

    And hearts are dumbfounded
    By shallow deeds.

    Soft moonlight comes
    resting on my window sill
    like an old friend

Greeting me with a familiar wave,
    Smiling carelessly at my loneliness.
    My heart confounds me --
Beating steadily for a worthless man.

    Soft moonlight comes
    a reminder of utter solitude.
    Let me cry no longer
    For I am wretched.
I want to be as tearless as the moon.

I love the metaphors and comparisons in this one. Simply beautiful.

It was written one evening when I only had moonlight to chase away my brooding. Thank you.

i love this ! sometimes we like the things we can relate to and othertimes we enjoy things that we feel that we could have written. i love this for both of these reasons.

I completely understand! Thank you so much!!!

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.

    T. S. Eliot (1888-1965) American-English poet and playwright.
