Shambles

Shambles

When everything’s turned to shambles

I re-arrange words and throw them on samples

Play them in the distance, in your friend’s truck

Or in the locked garage where he’ll fire it up

The better days make the worst in us

Realism is pessimism, or that’s what my therapist says

Well what the hell else is going to get me through the rest of the days

Driving home, 9 to 5, I’ll tell you what

If you don’t have dreams you’ll die

Out on the road,

I called my brother and rambled

When everything’s turned to shambles

You’ve got to lead by example

And I missed the mark

But I guess it’s never too late

To trick yourself into believing it ain’t dark

And it’s light,

And it’s warm

I reach into my pocket and light a smoke

And tell myself “son, you’re not that broke”
