    Poem Commentary

There are far too many like her.

    She Loves Him

    So young,
    so beautiful,
    with two small children,
and a husband with a roving eye.
    Her brown eyes mist,
    then, like an animal caged,
    flash with silent rage
when he decides to go out alone.
It's a lonely vigil she keeps,
and she cries herself to sleep
    on those nights
    he doesn't come home.
    He brushes aside her questions
    with kisses that are part
of the ploy to melt her heart,
for he knows she loves him.
    Why else would she accept
    the code he lives by?
    The double standard
    that keeps her home
    and faithful
to a husband with a roving eye.
    She sees through his lies,
    his smooth alibis,
    but forgives with a smile.
    The price is dear
for a heart full of tears,
but she is resigned to pay
    because she loves him.

oh baby girl....you have expressed what so many of us deal with everyday........some in silence.....some kicking and screaming and fighting it every time like its the end of the world......and in a way it is.....the end of the world we built in our hearts.......as women we need no one else to make love to.......to complete us.......just him......and the fact that they do need these other liations fills us with hurt and anger and self loathing........nice write.

And why do we accept this....

Such truth to your well written work depicting the double standard many women live in silence. Great write!

As always, I appreciate your comment.

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

    Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
