Poem Commentary

This was not written as the result of a personal experience. It was written for all of those that have trusted and been disappointed.

Shot Through the Heart

Thank God I’m alive

Thought I might not survive

Being shot through the heart

Gave my system quite a start

But here I am still

A testament to my will

I hold not a grudge

And will not act as judge

The shot that rang out

Came without warning or shout

From a trusted source without question

Without thought of aggression

A thoughtless friend was the culprit

Who acted absence of merit

Unkind words without thought

Serve for little or for naught

They wound and are lasting

Not subject to recasting

But life must go on

To new friends one is drawn

But as I seek a fresh start

I will be more careful with my heart.

They say..."Talk is cheep, but all the money in the world cannot buy back the words that were said." Nobody can hurt us like the ones we love...and that's the truth. So sorry.

A clear description of the visceral sensation that occurs when somebody or something triggers one of your "sensitivity issues". One may use such occurrences to identify "emotional blocks", to work to resolve or, more commonly, repress the event. In any case its an excellent description.

You have never been shot thro' the heart- yet you describe it so heartfully! WOW. Well, I am very greatful that you have never had to suffer this way. It truely does feel as tho' a stake is impaling your heart- hmm, maybe you have in sense, Charlie; Some of us feel the pain others suffer. The way you write, it seems clear to me that you are a man blessed with empathy of an angel.-peace2you, Maddi

Thank you WO. Your comments are always encouraging.

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.

T. S. Eliot (1888-1965) American-English poet and playwright.
