Silence

Silence

Can’t I be mean to you?

I can’t seem to say the words that are on the edge of my lips

Instead I stand speechless

Silently taking the stabs, punches and hits

That your words seem to be taking on my soul

Every word is another blow

You slowly bring me down

But I rise again in time

Though my mouth remains chained

And every action fills my mind

Can’t I blame you?

I seem so willing to take all responsibility

Though your actions make you just as guilty

I gather my strength for battle

But my kind heart seems to betrays me

It must be so

Every time I reach the end of my rope

I can never seem to let my go

Say the right words and I’m yours again

Can’t I be angry with you?

I want you to feel the fury of my wrath

Isn’t it possible for you hurt like I do?

Or maybe I need thicker skin

These wounds are much too deep

My tongue longs to be free

I stand firmly

But my core is shaken within

As I slowly suffer in silence

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
