    Poem Commentary

    Someone told me after I read this to them, 'I don't like it. It makes me sad.' I guess I did my job. I channeled my empathy through my words and you went through what I went through for the last 9 days. You should be congratulating me.

    Silent Musical

    Listening to the screaming and the mumbling music.

    And I lay here, tone deaf rhyming...

     

    Feeling the guitar pass through my outspread, open palms.

    The drum is set deep in my guts.

    The base is pumping through my eyes and heels.

    The singer's voice pushes through my throat and voicebox.

    Only to be silenced by the quiet all around me as it emerges.

     

    I lay here, mouthing each word with no sound to back them up.

    Each syllable sets listless on my tongue.

    They're leaving a nasty, bitter aftertaste but I keep going on.
