    Silent prayers

I reveal to you, my innermost workings

My hopes, my fears, my revelations

I tell you the way that life suprises me

the way it sometimes lets me down

I feel that words have served me well

but when I try to tell you how I feel

These words seem lost on you

I hear you pause and then explain to me

    what you think I mean

It sounds like another language I was speaking

A language you could not translate

My heart hurts and I feel lonely

I feel seperated from you by some unseen force

    I cannot seem to penetrate

I feel the distance between us

and when I re-explain to you

what I meant, I feel a kind of indifference

my feelings are hurt and I am not sure

    what to say

how could someone I love be so far away

I read you a poem that was meant for you

    your face like stone

I explain it and then feel more alone

I die inside and revive myself

your voice holds the sound of aggravation

while my heart feels such elevation

are you meant to be my challenge or my curse

I feel a mixture of sadness and hope

should I give up or learn to cope

should I try to thaw the ice around your heart

or realize we are better off apart

    my heart cracks and silently

I hold back tears and pray for you and me

Sometimes no matter how hard we try to get through, how much we hope they're listening with the same excitement and elation of sharing that we have when we say it to them... they just don't have it in them to really care about it very much... it may not be that they don't care, really... they're just not cut out of the same mold... they're the proverbial opposite attraction the cliche' warns us about... we have ask ourselves, are we just as attentive and interested in what makes them excited...??? Good write expressing the prayer for love, while explaining the tragedy of indifference...

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
