So The Lie Went

So The Lie Went

Or so the Lie Went

I hear death rides a pale horse
It's not true
The horse is an ordinary brown
Death now,oh that is another tale
For death wears the face of beauty
And even has emotional needs
I know this because he loved me
Or so the lie went
He came riding boldly into town
Sweeping away all who stood against him
To come for me as he needed a queen
And I of all the humans was the one he loved
Or so the lie went
Death is power incarnate and a aphrodisiac
He wooed me so gently so unexpectedly
Touched me in those secret dark places
Pleasures never felt before or since or ever will
For death once loved me
Or so the lie went
And I believed and I returned the love
For I thought does not even death get lonely
He did not choose this half life it was cursed upon him
So when he offered me the crown I accepted proudly
Thinking I was bringing a gift to humanity
For death loved me and would now be gentle to men
Or so the lie went
But death had another hand left to play
He called for his mighty steed and it came
To me
For by taking deaths love and returning it
I had released him from his curse
And I was now the mistress of death
The curse now fell upon my breast
As he handed me the reigns he said with a sigh
I really did love you It wasn't a lie
It was just too unbearable being so cursed
Taking the souls of babes before they were birthed
Night after night no rest for the dying
So I am now death who was once loved by death
Or so the lie went

I like this alot. so true on so many levels

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.
