    Solace

Where is the solace in this life?
Who are we truly connected too?
How many times have I wondered,
could this coworker, neighbor, or group member
be the one who I will know for life?
How many months go by with so little contact
from family as we age and people move on
to new jobs, places and phases of their lives?
Is there anyone who is a constant source
    of companionship and love?
Mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers, if present to begin with,
still end up leaving one by one in death.
Relationships with significant others fall apart
and leave in there wake broken pieces of what used to be families.
So yet again I ask where is the solace in this life?
They tell me the light of God comes from within and is ever-present.
They tell me that freedom is not found in the absence of bars,
but rather in the presence of Christ.
Personally I don't know who or what this god(dess) is,
but I do know whatever it is; it seems to be found in everyone and everything and sometimes it is the only thing left that a person has to cling too.
So you tell me where do you find solace in this life?

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

    Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
