Soldier

By Christopher Sandler

I wear the eagle on my breast
Carry the flag at my side
Carry a rifle at my other
I fight for my country

I fight for the freedom
That my country gives me
And as Human Beings
We all should be

I fight for the equality
That my country gives me
And as Human Beings
We all should be

I fight for all these rights
And all these values
That my country gives me
And as Human Beings
We all deserve and all should be
For I am a Soldier.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
