    Some Enchanted Evening

As this momentous days peaks to some enchanted evening, I'm outside chillin', things are sweet, I feel intrigued
It's about 80 degrees, lights just comin on, on my street
I'm sitting on the 'partment steps, enjoying the breeze
Got on hotpants, something like 9 inches above the knee
White beater so no sleeves, smoking tree, sippin VSOP
No shots heard so far, been a good day, wouldn't you agree?
My medicine kicks in, my eyes sparkle, I start to grin
It's gotta be something fun to which I can get in
So my journey begins, step off my stoop and turn the bend
Run into ole man Jim, say "how you doing, how you been?"
"All good, all's well, need a few dollars for my slow gin"....
Here you go Mister Jim, aint gotta five so take this ten"
He was damn near ecstatic, he know I sure aint have it
Not to be handing out, if you give you get, I have no doubts
Kept it movin, enjoyin my walk, ran into a man we call Hawk
For he's majestic and mysterious, keeps 'em all curious
I know him somewhat well, though, he's intensely serious
Reads a lot of books, he lives vicarious...
Ly through them, we spoke on various
Occasions, today wasn't one of 'em, I just waved
Shrugged at him, passed close by, threw a nudge at him
He knew I was doing me, remember we speak occasionally
Still smokin, at this point chokin, bumped into D-man, he stay jokin, that's what had me coughin, he was talkin '
Bout something off the wall and I inhaled, he prevailed
to make me laugh, so he patted my back, told me I was smacked, asked for a jack, a sip of the cognac, and if I had
another rollin wrap, cause he had a sack o'that, and since it aint late, let's get blowed back, we did that, exchanged a few you ugly cracks, talked about the past, and went on back
To what we were doing separately, I desperately needed a drink of non-alcoholic persuasion, after all that blazin
My throat was dry as my eyes were hazy, but I'm energetic
So it don't make me lazy, I had to stop and smell the daisies
No drama, no gunplay, aint ran into no haters, life is amazing
I'm giggling to myself, hope folks don't think I'm crazy
By now, I'm on a whole 'nother block, see a brother so fine
He introduced himself as Choc, bout 5'11', not much stock
Slim, cocoa brova', mahogany brown, lips thick, dreads full from nape to the crown, tell by lookn he know how 2 get down
He still mean muggin, that sexy hood frown, glare off the street lamps got me lookn at the ground, he finally smiles
"Oh, so you shy?", (introverts in the hood, what a surprise)
Give a cute smirk and then I reply "Nah, babes, just the light in my eyes!" Lipgloss poppin', so my natural plumps shine
Anyway, he's a young go getter so he's checkin the time
While hintin with the cellphone, gave my name and number,
He said, "I'll call tonight if you live alone, by that
I mean, no man at home, so we can vibe, get in the zone
Could end up doing things big, then you get a ringtone."
I like that sarcastic sense of humor, right on my level
True prince of the ghetto, dark eyes shinin 'like the bezel....
On my watch' as T.I. would say but I'm high and this day....
I truly fell in love at first sight, the rest of my walk was bright
I turned through the alley so dim, but a light was shinin within
Guiding me, walkin on air, no direction, but I made it there
The street was full and the steps were crowded, still no fuss
A few drug addicts trippin and clownin but none too rowdy
Enjoying the weather w/uppers or downers, liquor rounds
Street lights activated, stereos in cars or seals of windows,
Playing the new tunes, got the whole block captivated
Ms. Vy asking for freebies, sounds of laughter escalated
Friendly jibes back and forth still she'll get compensated
That's love out here, I wiggle in and retake my spot
The night breeze is blowing, still I hear no gunshots
I close my eyes feelin good at the absence of those noises
Swayin to the quiet storm intro, keepin my poise up
Singing along in a low voice, I make the choice to chill
and relax a little longer, when a sound so shrill
Rings out, people move quick, suddenly my chest feels, hot, tight, and, and, still I heard no gunshots, this can't be real
toked a bit, took a drink, took a walk, joked and shiii, fall in love and then get killed, no last meal, never heard the sirens scream, but I inhale the smell of spring so sweet, hear the sounds of rustling leaves, feel the moons mysterious heat,
see the light, and taste my breathe as I stop breathing.....
This momentous day ends with some enchanted evening

You took me back to the turf with all the real characters bumped into in a normal day. To hear no shots fired is the most beautiful time, you have to live so we can read your awesome writing.

To have great poets there must be great audiences too.
