Haiku - Once a daybreak habit in West Seattle

SOUND Haiku

The moon nearly full
Is hiding behind dark clouds
Glowing on the Sound

   Morning almost here
   The sound of brewing coffee
   Breaking the silence

      Quieting the mind
I sit and write my Haiku
      Beginning the day

         Before day begins
I do not fear the darkness
         I welcome quiet

      A good time to live
      Peacefully before the dawn
      A good time to die

   Night still covers sky
   The morning Haiku begins
   Starting the new day

Footsteps on the shore
Moving sand out of its place
Changing the whole world

   My only desire
   Is to live in harmony
   Just for a moment

      A new day begins
      What to do to contribute
      I breathe in and out

There is a Japanese form similar to this Called renga or renku that needs two or more poets. A haiku is followed by 2 line of 7 word sounds forming like a tanka by the two poets. It's then continued 36 times. The haiku is the first poet and the following 2 lines are by the next poet. It alternates through the complete poem: lines as: 3,2,3,2,3,2,3,2, Etc. I love haikus and reading yours makes me love them even more. This part was absolutely incredible "My only desire Is to live in harmony Just for a moment" so much was said there I wouldn't know where to begin

The Sound Haiku was a doubleentendre. We lived on Puget Sound at the time. Thanks for your kind words, g.
