    Speak Up

A hundred times they’d left them to die,
Theft of the love, the good, solely to cry.

Or maybe it wasn’t quite theft as much as,
They never gave a care about poor lad or lass.

The treasures, though, kept to themselves only,
When there’s the world out there of the lonely.

Those with nothing and loving no one,
The only thing they have is the rising sun.

Not a friend to speak of, or morsel of food,
Backwards they fall from skies so blue.

Like a roller coaster, we’re low, we’re high,
A sugar rush running through the veins, a cry.

The thieves falling from heaven above,
They feel naught but a bad blood rush.

Guilt won’t follow them, the pompous,
They’re “too good” to at all mind us.

    Hearts sobered in the deprived,
As a constant reality-check of lies.

When will this world be fair, I’ve asked,
When will we all set out minds to the task?

Not an answer has flown my way,
Not a person has a thing to say.

Speak up for those who have no voice,
If you were them, you’d want that choice.
