Speaking in Tongues

Speaking in Tongues

lifetimes of isolation
spent in relentless pursuit
was it merely fantasy
that bore this bitter fruit

my soul has been defined now
by this desperate search for you
the other half of me still lies
untouchable, with you

I wish you wakeful in your lovers arm
while your heart reaps just regret
for daring to betray me
or did you just forget

there's no rest for the broken
thus my slumber's ever brief
without your arms around me
there is no sweet relief

doomed I am to wander
alone and incomplete
and all that's pure is sullied
by your treasonous deceit

one thing to lose a lover
they easy come and go
but the loss of you consumes me
in despair, my love, hollow

each heart speaks its own language
that only one may hear
and I will never speak again
the secret speech we share

beloved you've abandoned me
my heart will not take flight
to soar with you, through skies of blue
that bleed into starlight

but destiny will have her way
I'll lonely 'bide til then
with hope that it is not too late
to find ourselves again

in this life or another
one truth we can't deny
heart & soul we're bound as one
on this I must rely

I like the font changes - as though we hear inner dialog as well as what is said out loud.

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.

Aristotle (384 BC-322 BC) Greek philosopher.
