Spirits of Samhain

Poem Commentary

This was based off of me actually hearing something very late at night that sounded like it was in a childs room, yet when I checked all were sleeping and the other adult had not heard anything.

Spirits of Samhain

Spirits of Samhain

A fretful noise deep in the night
Keeps one awake ‘til dawn’s in sight
A settling house has been heard before
With this noise she checks the children more
All is quiet when she goes to look
So she settles in to read a book
Morpheus finally starts to take her deep
A child’s moan tears her away from sleep
Time stands still ‘til the break of day
And chases any lingering spirits away
The veil will be thinnest very soon
On that night spirits can ask a small boon
Whether you trick or whether you treat
The Spirits of Samhain you always must greet.

very descriptive i can almost hear the sounds from the house myself. Well written

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
