Stand Up

Stand Up

I'm standing on the ledge
Of a castle built of sand.
One false step, one wrong move,
The disaster could be grand.

I breathe in deep and ponder
On the next move I should make.
I know the repercussions
Of even one mistake.

Look, here comes the tide,
Rolling in from sea.
It longs to wash away my castle.
To take the life away from me.

I decide that I should climb.
The castle crumbles in my hands.
I have to keep myself
From being buried by the sand.

Then I jump,
And to my amazement...
I stand up.

I am bigger than this.
Just stand up...

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
