    Street Life

We have been through a lot
    Slept on the hard cots
We have seen our friends die
    Watched their families cry
We have felt how it hurts
To see the blood on their shirts
We have been chased by the cops
Who run up and down our blocks
We have watched our brothers and sisters go to jail
And how much our parents pay for their bail
We have been through the fights
You don’t think, you just swing left and right
    We have seen them smoke
    Even though we choked
We have tried it a time or two
But some never make it through
We have stuck through it together
    Including the worst weather
    Realizing we are all one
    And now we are done
We are ready to move on
    And start a new song
No matter how life takes it
We are going to make it

I would not write this. But I am glad that I seen it in someone else this poem is something that I would read and the words are really about the streets. You go girl on your work. Read my poem, Dear World, and I have no fear.

Balance in your rhyme is what I like. For a person who is still a teen, you have seen...life at its worse. Make it better not bitter

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
