Strength

Strength

My heart tells me "run"
My head tells me "stay"
Emotions - confusion
Should I run away?

I face all my demons
As best as I can
Should I be alone
Or be with this man?

I bore easily
With things so mundane
As trite conversation
About weather and rain

Do I ask too much?
To be loved and be free?
Or do I resent
It's not "me" that you see?

The elephant's here
Right here in the room
But we don't discuss it
This house, now a tomb

We say the right words
We act out our part
Does it really matter
If it's not from the heart?

Yes, hell it does!
A phony I'm not!
I can't play this part
And live out this plot!

There's really a person
In front of his eyes
Yet he doesn't see me
So him I despise!

So please let this story
Be warning, my dear
Contentment is fleeting
And life full of fear

No matter who tells you
It MUST be like this
You do have a choice
It's sealed with a kiss

Dig deep in your soul
Find what is in there
You're really quite something!
So just let 'em STARE!

Wow! Nice flow and so full of emotion. You make a poignant statement about contentment in a relation ship. I must ask what has she done to bring this stalemate? It takes two. (Typical male responce). lol

LOL. Yes, it does take two. However, when ONE of them is a writer...well, maybe "she" has the upper-hand. Sometimes just the writing gets out the pain, and we move on. Just so you know...I'm actually happily married. :) Hard to believe from the poem though. Sometimes it's fiction, sometimes partly fact...changes day-to-day and even minute-by-minute. I appreciate your "typical male response." You guys deserve YOUR SAY, too, ya know. :) Hugz.

full of truth, angst, conviction and most importantly the hope that lets this woman realize who she is and what she wants, and what she'll likely do to set herself free. I like the revelations and grit in this poem. ginga

I think that women, in particular, can relate to this, whether it's a 1 on the scale or a 100! The emotions are just the same. Thank you for reading. :)

Poetry is either something that lives like fire inside you or else it is nothing, an empty formalized bore around which pedants can endlessly drone their notes and explanations.
