SUBTLE ARE THE SIGNS
subtle are the signs
for us that you have placed
stepping stones of guidance
and all are fairly spaced
you tap us on the shoulder
and slap us in the face
to some your signs are bolder
whatever may be the case
not every picket fence implies
a garden full of flowers
neither a dark cloud signifies
nurturing spring showers
sometimes you leave an open door
we fail the test and close it
we want to waste time no more
wondering why you would impose it
you place mountains before us
and let us climb them on our own
if we slip you don’t implore us
to mistakes you know we’re prone
instead you sing words of wisdom
because our human eyes are blind
you’ll lead us to your kingdom
with directions whispered in our minds
