    Tears From The Heart

If tears could fall from the heart then mine would be a waterfall, a descending sadness causing a river of emotions to flow through a torn soul.  Drowning from the overwhelming sorrow, my soul can no longer breathe, left gasping for the air that gracefully escapes from only your lips, the essence through which I exist.  The vast fields of love he was once free to roam have vanished from eyes sight, covered by the tears of a broken heart.  The entrapment of such a once joyous soul has rendered my faith in man into splinters of its former self, causing me to question why I had to leave with haste, leaving no time to tell you the reason that my tears fell so abundantly without restraint.  I was swept from your strong hold by the hands of a country wanting to be free of tyranny and greed, left wondering if I would ever see you again to yell aloud the feelings of my heart.  To say that this might be my last  chance to tell you these feelings,  that I may have to endure in writing what my tongue is so forth giving to let loose, is lacking strength in true feeling:  For you are unable to look into my eyes and see that I speak from the very depth of my tortured soul.  Yet still, I write in hopeful expectancy that you will feel the abounding passion of my hearts love through these words with the same connecting friction of our souls when first we met.

On September eleventh, terrorist attacked America with such malevolent hatred on our own soil, leaving us to lie in our own fear of losing what we so often fought for.  Which was simply the freedom to live without fear; through this way of life is the foundation of what our nation is built on.  Until that day, of which is now a day of mourning and realization that maybe we aren’t so free of fear, I thought I had tomorrow to do all the things I had not done yet.  Not knowing what the future held or even caring about tomorrow I walked through life with a naïve posture.  Now my eyes are open to the possibility of death coming tomorrow, or today.  So, I write this letter as a will and testament of my love for you, a last breath that so many have been deprived of during the many wars before.

Since that dreadful day of nine eleven I have fought for my life and the lives of my soldiers in three different tours in Iraq, shedding my own blood for the cause that their nation may be free one day as well and tears for the many lost friends that have seen their fate’s end on some other countries ground that was not his own.  I have also loved you with such enduring passion that I believe no man has the mind to comprehend.  From the way the evening sun strikes your hair so that it sets free a ray of colors so breathtakingly gorgeous the rainbows hide in shame for each one knows they do not compare in beauty.  The once so dark path that I so frequently walked is no longer left to be quilted by the absence of light, because I have your smile to guide me through the narrow roads of life.  So beautiful is your smile that it makes me weak and strong all at once:  strong enough to carry the weight of world on my shoulders, but questioning the strength in my knees to do so.  When I stare into your eyes I am instantly lost in a sea of bliss, a sight so astounding the angels in heaven envy my eyes for what they see.  The enchanting softness of your voice puts me at ease causing the world around me to disappear into a foggy mist, where as I am unable to see anything or anyone but you.  The elegance of your touch is more glorious than that of a soothing ocean breeze that I believe god cast from his breath for only my skin to feel, a gesture of generosity that I will never be able to fully repay.  There are so many small things about you that make each and everyday better than the last.  With each one that passes I fall even deeper into an abyss that’s cultivated by images of why I love you more today than yesterday.  You compliment me as a person, without you I am a mere shadow of the being I become with you by my side.  When god chooses to take me out of this world, and I have to leave my friends and family behind asking why I had to go, I would want them to know that I did not leave wanting, searching or saddened because for a time while on this earth I was whole.  My soul found his match in you, and I was complete.  For you, I say this “walk through life knowing that someone loved you unconditionally, and there was no boundary in his love for you.  Even at the end of his days his last breath was proclaiming, with a voice louder than the echo of histories past, that he loved you more than the winter months love the snow covered earth, and even an infinity fold more than any man has loved any woman:  from the beginning of time when the first two hearts beat as one, until the last beat of his made its final struggle to stay just a moment longer so he could see your gorgeous face one last time.”

Three words that are small when written seeming insignificant when spoken from eager lips, but when spoken truly from the heart they could move galaxies.  I love you, only once said but a galaxy was moved.  Together we will move them all.

Great piece, somehow I must have missed this one in my first read through of your work; unless this one is fairly new. I enjoyed as I have all of your work, Your brilliance of passion and putting into words such heartfelt feelings amazes me. I truly hope the recipient of your passionate letters appreciates them half as much as I. Great job as always.

Billy, this is such an awesome piece. The imagery that you used to compose the poem is vivid, so real. It reels in the reader closer and closer with each line. A great read!

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.
