Poem Commentary

For a close friend from my teenage years...gone but not forgotten.

teenager

Memories rush over me...
Close my eyes and listen hard, i can hear us laugh,
Shut them tight, look real hard, i can see us cry.
Friends were always there for us, never needed a reason why.

Dressed ourselves in black,
Listened to Cobain...
Never acted like the rest,
Didn't want to be the same...

"They don't get it",
"They don't care",
"They don't know",
"But we do"....

No one knew our names,
No one heard our cries,
"Let the music speak for us"...
Who needs a reason why?

We were always wrong,
And we were always right,
Tried to be the rebels,
Hiding cause we don't fit in,
Disguised but in plain sight.

Seems to me peculiar now,
What became our destinations....

We had our pact,
"Here's to now, don't look back"...
Now empty words, written here,
Forgotten and empty echoing.

What happened to you?
Did sadness blind your eyes?
Did the clouds move in and block the reasoning from your mind?

I'm sorry i wasn't there...

But i've found you now, again,
Your memory lives inside...
There you are, sitting, smiling, on the doorstep of my mind.
That is where i'll keep you, now,
A teenager always...
Sitting, smiling, a naive kid...
Until we meet again.

The emotion in this one is very easy to find and I think it is a very thoughtful dedication...that would likely be met with smiles. It also has a familiar theme we can all relate to...who we were as kids and what we are now. Kudos for this one :)

Good story. Your saddest one. Nicely written--------

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
