Poem Commentary

I wrote this in 1986 - it is about the war between Good and evil.

The Artist

An artist painted a picture
It was so beautiful to see
Then he told me that this picture
Was a replica of me
He said don't think about tomorrow
Just live for today
Right here in this picture
I'll show you the way

The colors were so vivid
The image was so clear
Sit back, relax, enjoy the view
The end's not drawing near
And do just what you want to
For you are number one
Eat, drink, and be merry
'Cause life's for having fun

Oh he's the great deceiver
He's the angel of light
The master of illusion
Who can pass death off as life
He'll rob you of your vision
Keep you blinded so you cannot see
That he's the great deceiver for all eternity

If you have been a victim
Of this master plan
There's a balm in Gilead
For every fallen man
Jesus is the answer
For all eternity
And he'll paint you a picture
Of reality

Oh he's the great restorer
He's the bright and morning star
The master of the universe
Who reaches down right where you are
His light can pierce the darkest night
Touch a heart that's stony cold
He's the great restorer
He's the lover of your soul

The dichotomy of the great deceiver light up into the angel of light and you did this brilliantly. Rhythm slightly interrupted but if a song it must work.

This poem is cool, the meter, and rhymes are good. The theme is very good, I hope this wins for ya.:)

LOL, well I doubt I'll be a winner..but I doubt that's what most of us are in this for anyway, huh? It was actually a song I wrong long ago, hence the meter you were perceptive to. Thanks so much!

Much divine insight in these words. Most of the world is deaf to these words. But all we can do is tell them and it is up to them to accept or not.

Thank you GentleT. I agree with you whole-heartedly!

You write with great conviction and creativity. an ironic iversion of the more typical portrayal of the artist being a benign,of not Divine Creator. This one creates only to ulimately destroy. A poweful blast, by extension, at the so called creative arts that erode our finer sense of right and wrong with dramtic or comedic license. Poetically fluid with only a hint of interruption to unruffled cadence. Polemically cogent, and artistically close to classical. I found much to like with this.

I love the rhythm and rhyme, and the message in this poem. I like that you used the artist as the catalyst. This poem is well written and intriguing. Ginga

Thank you, sweetie. This was originally a son, hence the rhythm. Thx for reading, as always! ~Sandy

Poetry is either something that lives like fire inside you or else it is nothing, an empty formalized bore around which pedants can endlessly drone their notes and explanations.
