The Awakening

Poem Commentary

Poetry Survivor Entry - Week Two - March 2010 A new day has dawned . . .

The Awakening

I woke up this morning from a dream …
Still shaken, from the sights.
A heavenly figure loomed over me ...
Who made me recall my life.
I felt the sting of days that passed ...
The watering in my eyes.
As he made me see what I had done ...
Was not what I realized.
He made me look at the pain I caused …
To all those of whom I love.
Broken promises and shattered dreams ...
Is what my life was made of.
I felt the tears running down my face ...
My heart beat erratically danced.
I then promised him that I would change ...
If given a second chance.
I vow to those who I have dismayed ...
To make up for what I've done.
By holding you close within my heart ...
I promise to treasure your love.
The tears that I cry - I cry for you ...
Hoping one day you'll soon forget.
And forgive me for the hurt I've caused ...
I'm sorry and I regret.
The heavenly figure then smiled at me ...
Said, "Son, I have faith in you.
The life that you lead is yours to decide ...
But, we must one day face the truth”
"So live each day like it is your last ...

 And you'll always rise above.
Never question the teachings of the heart ...
Because, the answer is always Love"

So true. The ones you meet in morning light, where you are neither awake nor asleep are the ones you should heed and ask questions. If they answer you and they touch your true flesh, and-- you theirs, know they are real and your fleshly reality is merely an illusion.

Thanks Olan .. you are so right Sir. There is something about being brought into the light and facing the realization that ones life is not as nice as one might think. Thanks again Pal! :) Ken

sounds like that voice and promptings of my Heavenly Father by His Holy Spirit that leads to repentance=(a change of mind, heart and actions). He is so is season and on time, and designed His people to live an overcoming life as we walk along side Him we find that in doing as He leads it always benefits and blessing us and all who know us and is so worth not allowing our feelings, desires and wrong affections to master us...sounds like your mastering them now Knight, good job and really an inspiring poem of the value of right thinking and right choices. And understanding there is unlimited forgiveness with our Creator, and every moment starts afresh with Him...after all that was the whole point of His coming, n return.... keep lookin up my friend, it won't be much longer now;) and thank you Knight, I so enjoyed this gift..."Spiritsong"

Thanks Spirit! I appreciate the ellaborate comments! :) I wrote this one morning when I woke up from the dream and had to write it down first thing. I awoke with tears in my eyes and felt like a heavy burden had been lifted from me. Thanks again for the comments! Much appreciated! :) Ken

Wow the addition of the quoted words at the end made me smile...such a breath of fresh air in your writing ken, you are truly amazing in how you express your thoughts so fluently, and it does not take much thought to follow, though the imagery and metaphor still exist, that takes talent and you have it my friend..

Thank you Altair - I appreciate your comments so much! :) You always humble me so. This piece is very special to me and I am so happy that you enjoyed it. Thanks again my friend! :) Ken

" Never question the teachings of your heart".A poem with philosopical moorings

Thanks Doshima - I appreciate it very much. Thanks for the read and comments! :) Ken

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
