    The Bayou

I've heard of a place that is so serene
where crickets and the slow moving streams seem to stop time
and the crocodiles and alligators are there to clear your mind.
I often wonder what it would be like to sit in a canoe and feel so small as I paddle through the trees with its outstretched roots than bury themselves in the lifeline of water and unknown fruits.
I can only imagine hearing the birds, the crackle of the branches, and the sways of the sycamore trees, the sound of the swans and the crane bellowing me.
As I close my eyes, I can hear the possum hide for cover, or the sweet swallow call her lover.
What God has created, so wondrous, so beautiful for our undeserving eyes to behold,
We are not worthy, for somedays we do not recognize our own souls.

A nice ecologically aware moern poem. Nature is not always seen in her glory, and we are not taught to see potential in our everyday life. Good write....

This poem is very expressive, and paints a vivid picture in the minds eye. It makes you feel as if you are there in that place and living the experience. I thought the poem was quite good! It also carries a thought provoking and soul searching comment in the last line of " We are not worthy, for somedays we do not recognize our own souls." This packs a wallop of truth!
