    The Candle is Burning

The candle is burning the heart,

With wick and light as one,

    Melting through the limbs,

    The skin,

The soul and body bleeding apart,

Flagging the solid ground for landing,

My eyes bug out like the sun through a spyglass,

I can see outside the lines,

    The purple rain,

    I can see everything,

The sky is blue and yet,

The shadows cross the murky stems of your eyes,

    Your silence is even loud,

But I see where sea kisses land,

And where land cradles the horizon,

I see the words behind the action,

    Such loving and tender words.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
