  • Thinking about writing something new cause it's been a while.

The Child Inside

There is a child inside me
I know her by her name
I hear her crying now and then
When she's lonely, sad or scared
I go to her and hold her
Her mother so it seems
I tell her that I love her
That she can now be free
So run and leap and dance and sing
And frolic in the sun
No one will ever hurt you
Or touch you ever again

Because I will protect you
You'll never again feel the blows
I'll take the sorrow and the pain
A child should never know
Innocent child be pure and clean
In my heart of hearts
Shielded by my goodness now
From their hands and eyes and words

I really enjoyed reading this. This poem causes the reader to dwell beneath the simple words to different meanings/outcomes/scenarios. I thought it was a rather deep experience for a poem that reads simple on the surface, but is quite complex and layered in mystery.

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.

Aristotle (384 BC-322 BC) Greek philosopher.
