The Dancing Flame

The Dancing Flame

The Dancing Flame

The flickering flame

of the scented candle

gives off light

enough to guide

our way through

the darkness

so we can gaze on

one another

as the shy

orange-blue eye

silently watches

warming the room

our shadows start

to slow dance

far off into

the realm of touch

dancing as we do

arouses

the rising flame

swaying like fire

hypnotic

slowly, surely

our flesh

melts in a blaze

of sweet desire

until the passion

becomes peace

dreaming of

one another

until finally

the flame

goes out

into the darkness.

You had me up to the end. This is a good poem, quite free form as all poetry should be. It ended all too abruptly though.

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.

T. S. Eliot (1888-1965) American-English poet and playwright.
