The Eagle Beagle

We soar with eagles up in the sky

Watching the world as we fly by

Mountains up here are not so tall

As a matter of fact they're mighty small

The ocean is vast and black at night

But with eagles eyes I see the light

The clouds so close as I flap my wings

Are pushed aside and the sun it brings

To warm my back as I float in the air

Up here all alone without even a care

All of a sudden what frightening sight

I flap real hard with all my might

Pulling myself up, way up in the sky

Oh help me God I don't want to die

Man's creation surrounds me everywhere

Building next building no matter where I stare

What has man done to the world you made

As soaring Eagles we're beginning to fade

Another contribution you can give to man

He's taken my freedom while making his stand

Little does he realize what he's taken away

Maybe you could show him so he'd know one day

Take away the sky you won't fly with the Eagle

You'll walk with a dog that could be a Beagle

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
