    The Empty Frame

    There's a picture I keep close by,
It shows a mother, father and child,
    My family portrait,
They smile at me, from their paper frame,
But lies can't cross through time,
    Those ficticious smiles fool everyone
But me, I know what lay behind them,
I know the power I held then
I know how I broke everything apart,
Till I was the only one left,
    Till only pictures remained,
    Of a smilling child,
Standing between a man and a woman,
    The bridge between hate,
    Unspoken emotions that no-one saw,
    Just me,stuck in the middle,
Of their fight, a reluctant referee
To take the hits they wouldn't bear,
Till they turn their heads in shame,
And carry on, this time to forget,
    Impounding each and every blow,
Till I refused to let the pain show,
The tears I shed, for them,
Left me barren of any for myself,
I wish I could send a message back,
    Through the barrier of time,
    Tell that stupid child
    To run and hide away,
    Nothing good came from staying,
She need not bear the pain,
It served but to show her death,
    But this child stayed,
    She refused to leave,
Spoke against both on one fatefull day,
They refused to take her away,
    Saying her lies were hurting
    That respected couple,
Who knew all the right people
So that silence was the rule of the day

it's so sad, it shows the captivated child who can not escape the hell in which he was caged, it reflects the misery of many children

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.

    T. S. Eliot (1888-1965) American-English poet and playwright.
