The Estranged Ones

Hard to be the estranged ones so we've learned to let it go
because he wrote us off such a very long time ago.

He left us behind to start his own life
leaving us kids and his suffering wife.

Can't really say if such hurt hangs anymore
we have all put that pain away in that long-lost drawer.

Time has passed and our own worlds have soared.
Too bad for him that he never joined with us anymore

He with his new wife and the life with no remorse
Us with our own and each other's families in full love's force

And, again the time passes, as it most certainly must
with offspring of our own as our families did adjust.

He has made his decision and the results seem quite hard
As now he is sick and waits for that get well card

We are sorry; we sympathize; we'll visit with this man in the bed
but sorely we are just the estranged ones with no true tears to be shed.

This is brilliant and heartfelt. An American tragedy played out and displayed across this page. I also like the adjustment you speak of. Its just a well done piece. 10

I love this one. Too many times people make selfish decisions with no thought for the ones that will be hurt by such. Well written. You truly expressed the emotional hurt, anguish and subsequent detachment that comes when people make selfish decisions...........E

I can feel the emotion and hard time. A sentimental poem touching me.

Hi jyothi -- Thank you! I appreciate your comment. Sally

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.

Aristotle (384 BC-322 BC) Greek philosopher.
