The FairyTale Ending

Poem Commentary

Retreating to the darkness .. securing the locks.

The FairyTale Ending

Pondering the puzzle of missing pieces ...
Forcing them to fit - hammering the creases.
My actions taken never seem to agree,
It's always been a constant battle for me.
I take it in stride as I journey through life ...
There's nothing I can do to make it all right.
The pain it persists - It is taking it's toll,
Must maintain composure and not lose control.
- - -
So, I hide in my castle - away from it all ...
Away from my life and ignoring it's call.
I can't let it take me - so I hide in the mist,
Or I'll forever resign and cease to exist.
There once was a love that I thought to be true ...
I was just beyond the door waiting for you.
There was no sign of fear - no sign of regret,
Only a promise to be the greatest love yet.
- - -
As time moves on and reality sets in ...
The confusion overwhelms and the doubts begin.
Questioning if we're making a stupid mistake,
Maybe we should end this before it's too late?
Insecurity - The killer of all that is love ...
Rises from the depths as it strikes from above.
A dragon that lurks in the hearts of us all,
Ready to attack - upon beckoning call.
- - -
Retreating to the darkness - securing the locks ...
Ensuring the moat monsters are circling the dock.
Protecting from above - the dragon spews fire,
Flames to strike down any unwanted desire.
Climbing back to her tower - she cowers in fear ...
Forsaking the Knight that she once held dear.
Forcing him to retreat to his castle in shame,
To wallow in the sadness of his heart's remains.
- - -
To think that I thought this was a love so real ...
Should've known Maleficent doesn't know how to feel.
Where true love is fantasy and rarely found in real life.
I should've stopped in my tracks - took time to think twice.
Love is an angry beast that attacks and devours ...
Scaring Knights back to castles and Queens to their towers.
Not an ending befitting of a Knight and his Queen,
But ... What does one expect from a fairy tale dream?

Talk about taking a bite out of reality....unfortunately love can at times be the heaviest price to pay for taking the leap...I loved the way in which you told this without much malice and read so true and honest that one can't help but feel the pain....Trust me...your True Queen is out there....awesome my friend...Cher

very nice Ken....Remember that fairy tales are just tales..The evil one that you speak of in the verse is tainted and in love with the keys and not that of the flesh...Take care of yourself and heal those wounds the ones that only you can heal...take care Jeff

Jeff - Ol' Friend it's nice to see ya. I've missed ya. And you are so correct sir .. I allowed this evil to happen to me .. and I have learned a very important life lesson .. no more fairy tales .. WOW WOW WOW - I feel this way about love sometimes, more often than not. I read your other comment, that this would be the last poem about her. I hope the poetry helps heal and let go. There was someone in my life that I kept writing about and the types of poems were along the same lines. It took a while but I let him go finally - totally forgave and freed myself. I'm sure real love can happen outside of the fairy tale is rare but real. ;) Take care and thank you for such an incredible poem!

Thank you so much WG! :) Thanks for sharing your experience as well .. Love is real and rare .. I believe it will find me again .. but when it does there will be no more fairy tales :) I am strong and will survive this ordeal .. just another life lesson learned. I am happy to hear that you too have moved on as well. Thank you so much for your insightful comments and praise .. I truly appreciate it! :) Ken

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
