    The Far Side of Fear

    I thought fear was big
    Of the order of gargantuan

    So I let it intimidate
    Never challenging it, never confronting.

Then I met it one day
Standing in front of what I wanted.

    I walked up to it
    I went right through it

And when I turned around to see its other side
I found it made of old teddy bears,

    Whose eyes glowed suspiciously,
    Yet blindly, into the dark.

Nothing to fear but fear itself, nice saying but not always true. Enjoyed the read and the message.

You are correct. Some things should be feared. But the future isn't one of them.

I wrote this to encourage a friend who was terminated because she wouldn't stoop to the unscrupulous level of her boss on a business decision. She got a new job within two weeks in this lousy econoomy in MIch. Just slightly less pay, but she's making it, and has a good boss.

Well, I think teddy-bears with glowing eyes is a little scary! But still this is a great poem. Good job!

LOL thanks for reading, the image was that teddy bears scare a child in the dark, but an adult should have the means to discount the threat to zero. HT

This reminds me of a favorite quote, "Fear gives a small thing a big shadow."... It is so true that when we forge ahead through our fear, we find we didn't need to fear in the first place. Nice write!

I wrote this to encourage a friend who had just lost a job through the evil intent of a supervisor. In Michigan this can be a cause for real fear to a single Mom. But through courage and prayer, she had found replacement job in less than three weeks.

For sure, you hit the nail on the head with this one. We should never let fear drive us away from what we want . Unfortunately, we are a bunch or fraidy cats and very few are consciously able to walk through the veil of fear, as you described. Thanks for breaching the gates with this classic example. Powerful content! 10 from me!

Please read my comment to bloomingson for details. this time it was necessary to walk through the fear. HT

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

    Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
