The Golden King

Poem Commentary

I wrote this as sort of a placer for the space between Fable II and III... I know, I'm such a nerd. But anyway, this is the sort of rule I think my character would have had as king of Albion... Until he died, that is.

The Golden King

There was once long ago
A majestic and kind king
The sort people loved so
Whose songs they'd sing

His rule was wise and just
Reliable and fair was he
He was worthy of the trust
That in the streets you'd see

With him bearing the crown
There was no crime or strife
And in every single town
His subjects had a good life

His actions brought joy
His people would rejoice
About the plans he'd employ
For each was a just choice

The kingdom was a land
Of peace, love, and prosperity
Far better than ever planned
As beautiful as could ever be

Though the people knew
That someday they'd sing
Funeral dirges tragic and true
Of their fallen golden king

I always welcome another departure from the typical, and this certainly illustrates your talent for playing with your imagination instead of defining it. An interesting tale of Utopia.

A cheerful song of legend, of the type that might be sung by an itinerant minstrel or balladeer, and worthy of mythic figures such as King Arthur, or Prester John.

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
