THE HUG

Poem Commentary

For everyone who embraces their fellow man no matter what skin they're in.

THE HUG

Thank you my brother for caring so much,

And not shying away from my mere touch.

Instead you embraced my body without care,

And you held me when no one would dare.

Thank you my brother for being there when my turmoil began,

And giving me a much needed helping hand.

For helping me get over this rough stuff that I’m dealing with,

And not letting me give up and not letting me quit.

Thank you my brother for being there to cry and grieve with me,

And un-afraid to show compassion for everyone to see.

For helping me survive those long suffering days,

By making me pursue life in a brand new way.

Thank you my brother not of my blood,

But by the bond of our hug.

Your actions my brother meant the world to me today,

And you will remain my brother until my dying day.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
