    THE ILLUSION

WHAT STARTED OFF SIMPLE, PLEASED BY THE AVERAGE CONVERSATION STRAIGHT TALK NO THRILLS.

BECAME TO BE A MIND TWISTING EMOTIONAL ROLLER COASTER BECAUSE THE FEELINGS HAD BECOME OH SO REAL.

BLOCKING OUT ALL THE SIGNS OF ME BEING THE ONLY ONE TAKING THIS TO THE NEXT LEVEL.

I TOLD MYSELF IT TAKES TIME HE'LL COME AROUND SEE CAUSE HIS OLD LADY IS THE DEVIL.

AS TIME PASSED I WOUNDER WHY HE DIDN'T WANNA CHILL WITH ME AND TAKE ME OUT.

IT DAWNED ON ME PLAIN AND CLEAR HE WASN'T LEAVING HER I KNEW THIS WITHOUT A DOUBT.

BUT HE SAID HE LOVED ME EVEN THOUGH I KNEW HE WAS PLAYING.

I HELD ON TO THE ILLUSION BECAUSE US BEING TOGETHER WAS WHAT I WAS PRAYING.

    IT'S STILL AN ILLUSION.

Most of us have gone through the pain of one sided love, trying to fool ourselves, rationalizing and praying for that illusion to be real. Some of us have to learn the hard way and personally I require a 2 x 4 with a nail in it in order to see what's in plain sight. I get a lot of strength from this poem. You are not a victim nor do you mean to be and this is more about coming to terms with one's own responsibility in the scenario and perhaps learning from one of lifes crappy lessons. There is no blaming, just a realization... and its from the point of realization that growth and change then come about. I like the terse ending. It signifies closure without second guessing. Its that second guessing that cause so many of us to have to resort to the 2 x 4 with the nail in it...

To me, this is your best poem. It is honest and truthful and full of rhythm and i loved reading it. And it makes one feel great that the writer has ni illusions

So many people wait for others to approve of them or give them love when the most we can do for ourself is love ourselfs first and everything else will fall into place if it is meant to be.

I enjoyed your poem. It sounds like the truth for so many women who seek the love that they hope to find in the arms of someone unwilling to commit. I hope that it isn't personal, but understand your new strength if it is.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
