    The Inherited Gardener - 1985

Where can I run? What can I do? The scent of her still lingers where she passed me in the garden. What are magnolias to the fresh scent of her presence? Her skin, soft and delicate, shames the lily that grows by the mill. And her hair - her hair, though black like my own, is rich and all glisteny, like the raven in the meadow. Her laughter is innocent, like a child's laughter. And as she speaks, I just melt inside. So sweet - so pure.

Dear God...where do I run? What do I do?
She is white - and they will kill me if I speak.

Very nice piece. Small point, of a nature I fuss about in my work, is it possible to avoid the triple repetition of the word "like'?

Interesting. I stepped into this persons mind and heart and wrote it as it came to me. He is not an educated man, but a feeling one. I don't like like when as will do, but with this one it just happened.Good point though. Thanks

Who care about a silly typo? This poem is the bomb-diggity! Huge scandal ...I can see it all unfolding before me, just from your few succinct words..............it's a masterpiece. Let me tell you, I could write a story just from this.

Thanks L - Do it. But I doubt the hanging would overtake the scandal.

Well, that's the beauty of fiction. You can have it end up how you decide it will.

Thank you Sam. No boundries on love.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
