The Iron, The Chain and the Seal

  • Learning that deliverance doesn't come without a birthing shroud...

The Iron, The Chain and the Seal

I've become so much stronger
since they knew me, then.
I haven't mellowed ---
I've fellowed
With Trial and Perserverance,
And those guys fashioned
an armor for me
Out of the pieces of shipwrecks
we've known together.

They never told me they hung out
with Liberty and Independence,
Until after I'd learned how to stand.

That's when all hell broke loose...

An enemy was shaken
the day I was taken
By the hand to learn how to stand.

He gasped at the notion
of my lack of devotion
To a script he had ripped
from the hand
Of the one who was first,
the one who was cursed,
When he could not obey a command.

He thought I would follow
with eyes and mind hollow,
To a gallows so heavily manned
By a world that is lost ---
tossed, in chaos
And given unto his demand.

I thought I'd become so much stronger
Since they knew me, then.
But he didn't give up;
he geared up
With the lust of the flesh,
the lust of the eyes
and the pride of life ---
And those guys fashioned
an assault against me
Out of the pieces of kingdoms
I've worshipped before ---

He never told me he owned me
Until after I'd learned how to kneel...

That's when Victory showed up..!

The enemy was shaken
The day I was taken
By the heel to learn how to kneel.

His chains have unraveled,
Opened paths so untraveled
To the part of a heart
unrevealed ---
So calloused and hard,
So blackened and scarred,
I thought it was all part of the deal -
To keep it apart from more pain
was the art
In the iron, the chain and the seal.

But Victory received
the enemys' deed
Upon Himself as He made His appeal.
He felt so forsaken
As His body was taken
So we all could be opened ---
and healed.

It was Victorys' call
that whispered of all
Of Calvarys' gifts - true and real.
There was no evading
the gentle persuading
That melted the iron, the chain
and the seal.

It's true, I was found
imprisioned and bound
In the darkness of what it is
not to feel ---
But He showed me my loss
Can be left at the cross
And He taught me that to stand
-----I must kneel.

Finally, a poem of the cross that deosn't rely on trite and banal verse to attract the mind. "Shipwrecks we've known together."... superbly motivational. A 10.

I loved how you characterized Trial and Perserverance and also the build up all the way to the end was magically well said. Amazing to what depths the Lord will go to rescue us from the muck and the mire. God bless you for "getting it".

This is written extremely well. You use rhyme quite well. It has a depth of genius. Sally.............
